1 Corinthians 11:8-12
New King James Version
8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. 12 For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God.
We are told that we must teach our children to be independent, but is this wise? What is independence?
Independent: free from outside control; not depending on another's authority. (Google.com accessed Sept. 28, 2024https://www.google.com/search?q=independent+definition&sca_esv=606d5da297b0983c&sca_upv=1&sxsrf=ADLYWIIy3tjJSSMzRUj25aS_3) Do we want our children to grow up fully independent and have no authority in their life? I would argue that we want our children to be independent thinkers in the since that others do not control their thoughts. But are not Christian wives to be under the authority of their husbands for protection and guidance? Not to control them but to lead them. Yes! Children should grow up to be responsible adults no longer controlled or under
the authority of their parents, but should we teach our children that they do not need to submit to ANY authority in their lives? I believe that this is a grave mistake. I was taught to be responsible. Responsible: having good judgment and the ability to act correctly and make decisions on your own. (Dictionary.Cambridge.org. accessed September 28, 2024.https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/responsible) I was also taught to be an independent woman, not needing anyone. But I would argue that I do need people. I need people to love me, encourage me, and even give me their insight and advice at times. I do not need them to feed me or tell me how to think. I am now dependent on my husband to keep me from being lonely and to have someone to converse with and perhaps to protect me from wrong thinking at times.
American women have been taught for generations to be "independent" not needing a man to provide for them or to make decisions for them. But can a woman live her life without depending on anyone for anything? No one to provide for her, no one to protect her, no one to help her make wise decisions. Can she work, raise the children, and keep a home free and independent from her husband, her parents her friends, or anyone else? Oh, men need women, men need women to carry their children, but women? They do not need men, do they? I saw a man declare "An independent woman doesn't need you she must want you." Really? We all need to be needed. In truth, we all need each other. God did not create us to not need each other. I certainly need men to do the dirty work for me. I know, some women like to do the dirty work, but can they think like a man? God made men and women to need each other. To depend on each other. God made us different so that we can become one. when there are two positives there is no electricity. And we do need electricity, don't
Dear Lord,
Please help me to understand that I am dependent on you and under your authority. I need you Lord and I am not able to be happy independent from you or those you have put in my life for me to submit to.
